Heartsaver First Aid Training (Los Angeles)

Heartsaver First Aid is a course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrives. Students learn duties and responsibilities of first aid rescuers; first aid actions for medical emergencies, including severe choking, heart attack, and stroke; and skills for handling injury and environmental emergencies, including external bleeding, broken bones and sprains, and bites and stings.

This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory, or other requirements.

Available Learning Formats

This course is offered in the following formats:

Onsite: In a classroom at one of our locations.

Online: This is a two-part process, first you complete the online course material at your own convenience and pace. Then you complete the hands-on skills portion of the course at one of our classroom locations. This is the most flexible option for individuals with busy or non-conventional schedules.

Offsite: In a classroom at your location. This is typically good for Organizations who would like to certify or recertify multiple members at one time, while minimizing the time away from the Organization’s location. A minimum of 6 students is required for this format.

After completing this course, students should be able to:

  • List the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of the first aid rescuer
  • Describe the key steps in first aid
  • Remove protective gloves
  • Find the problem
  • Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke
  • Use an epinephrine pen
  • Control bleeding and bandaging
  • Recognize elements of common injuries
  • Recognize elements of common illnesses
  • Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury
  • Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers

Part 2: Skills Session (30 – 60 minutes): Successful completion of an in person, hands on skill session with an American Heart Association Certified Instructor. A certificate of completion for the ONLINE PART 1 must be presented at the time of your skill session to receive your completion card. Schedule Skills Session
